•   Lauren was absolutely amazing!  She was extremely personable and authentic, she took the time to converse with us even though she had a large area to serve. Never have I felt so welcomed in any other eatery.  Lauren's out of this world service speaks volumes for the ownership and business. The food surpassed my expectations with every portion being perfectly cooked and seasoned.  The pastries they offer are just as amazing as their breakfast items; although I was stuffed I still managed to grab a bag full on my way out.  Definitely a must if you're in or near Custer!

  •   Great little place! Stopped in for breakfast during a visit to Custer State Park. The service was great and the food outstanding. I had the breakfast burrito and my husband had the ham & cheese omelet. The burrito was big and flavorful with all the good things inside. The omelet was loaded with ham and seasoned perfectly. This is a great little spot to grab a cozy meal. Highly recommend stopping in!

  •   Baker's Bakery is a quaint spot within Custer, perfectly encapsulating the feel of diner from an earlier era.

The food arrived possibly *too quickly*, and I suspect lead to some quality control issues. For instance: the famous breakfast burrito's meat was primarily on the top half, which lead to a rather disappointing bottom half.

The Avocado toast was about the size of an appetizer, and the side of fruit was unfortunately passed it's prime.

The dining room was not busy, so there was plenty of time to get it right which would've certainly lead to better quality food.

Though tables are a bit close together, there's still room for somewhat private conversation.

The service was kind, attentive, and knowledgeable.

.. just slow down on the food.

Side note: The pastries looked delicious, though I didn't have time to partake in them.

  •   Breakfast was super fast. I had a Denver scramble with breakfast potatoes. It was delicious. The potatoes were crispy. The cinnamon rolls are the size of our head. They have a huge variety of donuts. This is a must try place when in Custer. They have plenty of seating for large crowds too.

  •   Terrible service! My fiancee and I went there this morning to grab a quick coffee and donut breakfast before going to Jewel Cave and most of the staff made us feel like we were asking for them to move the world. We are from MD so never been to this part of the country before and were excited at the pastry display. The manager barked at us if we were dining in or carrying out. We had time, so figured we'd eat there. A very nice male server seated us in the back of the cafe - past the kitchen, restrooms, and several empty booths - where we sat stunned for several minutes. We said we just wanted some baked items and he told us those were only for to-go (which was fine). The manager was trying to get past my fiancee and we apologized for being in her way. She said nothing and rolled her eyes. An older couple (seemed like locals) came in and were greeted nicely and seated in the front of the cafe. When we purchased our donuts and coffee, the counter girl had a sour expression on her face despite us being polite and trying to make friendly conversation. The key to all of this is we are an interracial couple (I'm black, she's white). Even though black and Asian staff worked at the cafe, we did not feel welcome and wondered if "We" were the reason. South Dakota has mostly friendly people, but not at this place!  Ironically, they have an "All Lives Matter" sign prominently on their door. To be fair, the donuts were tasty but the coffee was super bland. 7-11 has better.

  •   Wow!!! Random stop on our drive to crazy horse... breakfast was outstanding and well as the service!! The bakery was truly amazing!! We will be back again !! So yourself a favor and stop by!! 10++++

  •   We arrived at Baker's Bakery & Cafe in the late afternoon for lunch.  It was our last day in the area.  We were immediately seated and the service was very friendly.  I had the Jalapeño Ranch Burger, which was amazing.  It was cooked perfectly, had a good selection of toppings, and not to mention their homemade buns!  Our group also had the burger and fries along with fish & chips.  Everything we had was perfection, by far the best food on our trip.  If we had only known, we would have made the drive to this place regularly!

When preparing to leave we ordered pastries.  Of course at this time most of the best breakfast ones, like caramel rolls, were gone.  But what we did have was all incredible.  The cookie was plate-sized and very moist.  The other delights were all perfect.

If I lived any closer, this would be a dangerously regular spot for me.  I feel like I could move to this town and be happy.  As it is, anytime I'm in the area, this is my go-to spot for good food or pastries!

  •   Yummy breakfast on the Custer area!  They don't have a kids menu for breakfast but my 6 & 7 year old loved the donuts and split the pancakes!! Service was fantastic!  I will go there again when I'm in the area!

  •   Disappointing, and overrated here on Yelp.  The wait staff weren't very helpful or friendly.  The hot breakfasts we ordered were decent, but nothing to write home about.  The coffee drinks we ordered were not very good.  While we were there, other customers were complaining about the service and I overheard a waitress make a sarcastic comment under her breath toward a customer.  The pastries looked really tasty, but I didn't try one.

  •   We stopped in for 2 small coffee's, a caramel brownie and a cheesecake bar and we were shocked at the $15 total! The baked goods were very good and the coffee was alright as well but we felt the total was ridiculous. Unless, you are really craving something sweet and have to have it, I'd pass, not worth the cost. Sorry, just my opinion.

Making an impromptu trip to Custer and our kids first comment was “mmmm…cinnamon rolls”. We have talked about the rolls from this bakery for three years and can’t wait to stop and have some more.

My family was vacationing in Hill City for the week and after several attempts at finding a gluten-free friendly we finally came upon Baker’s Bakery. We thought a ‘bakery’ was a long shot but we gave it a try. We are so glad we did! The food was amazing! This is definitely a hidden gem in Custer! We would highly recommend this restaurant to others!

Absolutely, THE best breakfast I’ve eaten in decades. Sure, anyone can make and serve a western omelet, but the details wrapped up in this menu item divide the serving, world’s apart, from anything I’ve encountered in my years. From the fresh-baked bread to spread jam onto, to the perfectly-prepared vegetables and bacon within, this will be thought about until my next trip to the Black Hills. The service was awesome and the atmosphere was enticing. I would highly recommend this to anyone in the area.

Just tried their “Lemon Bars” and they were to die for. We’re traveling thru from Chandler, Az. and I’m afraid I’ll never find them as good. Thank you so much! Sincerely, Linda

At least twice a month we drive from Spearfish to the Bakery in Custer to eat and take home rolls. We have to get there early because EVERYONE buys up the ‘goodies’.Thanks for the delicious meals, treats and….friendly people!

I remember Caramel Rolls, from our trip 2 years ago. We drove from NC out to Mt Rushmore and the biggest thing that seems to come up every time we talk about our trip is those Caramel Rolls.

Stopped in for lunch while visiting Custer. My husband ordered a buffalo burger and I ordered the mushroom burger with American cheese instead of swiss cheese. Food was pretty good but our waitress did not inform me they charge extra to substitute cheese. We already had to pay extra for fries and onion rings. Although it wasn’t a huge difference she could of at least told me they charge extra to substitute one kind of cheese for another.

Stopped for lunch last Saturday because the pastries looked good. Ordered the Buffalo Salad. WOW. It was one of the best taco salads I’ve had. (I lived in AZ for 15 years). It was so flavorful, I ate all even after I was full.
Service was friendly and helpful. I’ll be back.
